Massive Global Pre-Sales Milestone

The highly anticipated mythological epic Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has achieved a monumental milestone by crossing Rs 150 crore in gross worldwide advance bookings prior to its November 5 theatrical release. This robust surge in ticket sales firmly cements the ambitious production among the absolute biggest cinematic events of the year.

The pre-release momentum has been fueled by intense interest across both domestic and international territories, pointing toward unprecedented audience engagement for a multi-language Indian release.

Overcoming Early Distribution Hurdles

The path to these record-breaking pre-sales faced initial challenges due to a revenue-sharing disagreement between film distributors and theater exhibitors. This dispute briefly delayed the opening of ticket windows across several cinemas.

Once negotiations successfully resolved the impasse, an increased number of screens became available to the public. This resolution immediately triggered a massive wave of ticket purchases that propelled the film past the Rs 150-crore threshold.

Domestic Dominance Led by Hindi Version

According to data from trade tracker Sacnilk, the domestic market contributed more than Rs 100 crore gross to the overall advance tally. The Hindi version emerged as the primary driver, accounting for nearly three-fourths of all domestic pre-sales.

At the same time, the Kannada and Telugu versions registered highly encouraging demand. This regional enthusiasm was largely attributed to Yash taking on the role of Ravana, widening the demographic appeal of the multi-language release.

Strong International and North American Demand

International markets played an indispensable role in driving the global advance booking figures past Rs 150 crore, with overseas pre-sales touching approximately $5.6 million. North America emerged as a particularly strong contributor to these international figures.

Paid previews scheduled ahead of the official India release further bolstered the overseas business. The broad international response underscores the global ambitions of producer Namit Malhotra and the cross-border appeal of the main cast.

Multiplex Chains Set New Records

India's leading multiplex chains—PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis—reported extraordinary figures, combining for Rs 45.76 crore gross in opening-weekend advance bookings including blocked seats. Without blocked seats, the combined total stood at Rs 36.38 crore across 7.89 lakh sold tickets.

PVR contributed Rs 25.36 crore, INOX added Rs 14.91 crore, and Cinepolis brought in Rs 5.49 crore. Kamal Gianchandani of PVR INOX noted that this performance could mark the largest pre-Diwali advance booking record in the company's multi-decade history.

Lofty Opening Day Projections

With advance sales crossing Rs 150 crore globally, trade analysts have offered optimistic projections for the film's opening day. Industry estimates suggest a domestic India opening between Rs 75 crore and Rs 100 crore nett.

Worldwide opening projections range from Rs 160 crore to Rs 175 crore, with analyst Ramesh Bala noting the potential to challenge the Rs 200-crore mark. Despite these massive figures, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge still holds a higher benchmark with its Rs 236.63 crore global Day 1.

A Two-Part Cinematic Journey

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra alongside Yash's Monster Mind Creations, the film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Shobana, and Vivek Oberoi, with music composed by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.

As the first installment of a planned two-part epic backed by a reported Rs 4,000 crore combined production budget, Ramayana faces immense long-term commercial expectations that extend far beyond its opening weekend.
