First Look Unveiled for Space Thriller
International sales company Goodfellas has officially revealed the first images for Toho's highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Leviathan. The project serves as a live-action adaptation of the best-selling manga created by Shiro Kuroi.
As the film enters its post-production phase, the Paris-based firm is preparing to present a first promotional reel to buyers at the upcoming AFM. Goodfellas is handling international sales for all territories outside of Asia.
Plot and Setting in the Depths of Space
The narrative of Leviathan transports audiences to the year 2127. The storyline centers on a group of students who find themselves stranded in deep space following a catastrophic accident aboard their spacecraft.
With oxygen supplies critically low and only a single life support unit remaining, the trapped students are forced into a brutal and desperate battle against one another for their survival.
Creative Team and Directorial Leadership
The sci-fi project is co-directed by Michihito Fujii, whose recent credits include the Netflix hit Last Samurai Standing, alongside Ryohei Shingu. Fujii also contributed to the screenplay alongside Izumi Takahashi.
The film's source material originates from Shiro Kuroi's acclaimed manga, published under Ki-oon. The production brings together notable creative forces to translate the complex illustrated survival story into live-action cinema.
Starring Cast Members
The ensemble cast for the ambitious space thriller is fronted by Shunsuke Michieda and Natsuki Deguchi. Michieda is widely recognized for his work in Even If This Love Disappears From The World.
Meanwhile, Deguchi joins the production following her appearance in Look Back. Their casting anchors the youthful student dynamic at the heart of the spacecraft survival narrative.
Toho's Continuing Global Expansion
This adaptation arrives on the heels of several major international successes for Japanese studio Toho. The studio recently achieved global attention with the Neon-acquired Exit 8 and its ongoing iconic Godzilla franchise.
Following its international sales launch at the market, Toho has scheduled the official theatrical release of Leviathan in Japan for February 11, 2027.
