Ramayana Projected For Rs 160 Crore Opening Day As Global Pre-Sales Surge

The upcoming epic Ramayana is eyeing a massive opening of around Rs 160 crore worldwide, easily surpassing major blockbusters like Jawan and Animal, though it is expected to stay behind record holders such as RRR and Dhurandhar 2.

Massive Scale and Massive Expectations

The cinematic adaptation of Ramayana arrives as a monumental project in the Indian film landscape. Touted as the biggest domestic film ever produced, the feature boasts a massive budget and a wide distribution network spanning global territories.

Industry analysts and trade experts anticipated record-shattering numbers right from the announcement phase, given the sheer scale of production and the prominent star cast attached to the venture.

Advance Booking Hurdles and Recovery

Global pre-sales officially commenced on Dussehra, giving fans a 15-day window ahead of the scheduled theatrical debut. While overseas markets responded with immediate enthusiasm, ticket sales within India faced initial roadblocks due to business disagreements between exhibitors and distributors regarding revenue sharing.

Most domestic screens kept bookings closed until a few days prior to the premiere. Despite this setback, momentum picked up rapidly during release week, leading to substantial figures by Wednesday morning.

Domestic and International Pre-Sale Totals

By the final stretch before release, the film accumulated Rs 77 crore in domestic pre-sales for the opening weekend alone, with the opening day contributing roughly Rs 33 crore of that total.

On the international front, pre-sales reached $5.6 million, which included $1.5 million from paid previews in North America. Combined, the global advance collection touched Rs 125 crore, establishing a strong foundation for opening day.

Projected Box Office Figures

Current box office tracking suggests a worldwide opening day collection of approximately Rs 160 crore gross. While conservative estimates hover around Rs 150 crore, some optimistic projections lean closer to the Rs 200-crore mark.

The Hindi version is expected to drive the domestic earnings significantly, contributing an estimated Rs 55 to 60 crore net, whereas the Kannada version is tracking at more moderate levels despite the presence of star actor Yash.

Comparison With All-Time Openers

Even with a projected Rs 160-crore start and a massive release across 70,000 screens distributed by Sony, the film may fall short of the highest-grossing opening days in Indian cinema history. All-time leaders like Pushpa 2, RRR, and Baahubali 2 hold higher opening records.

Furthermore, the feature is expected to trail Dhurandhar 2 and Kalki 2898 AD, while potentially landing ahead of KGF Chapter 2 on the opening-day charts.

Surpassing Previous Milestones

Despite missing the top tier of all-time records, the film is poised to comfortably outpace earlier high-profile releases. It will easily eclipse the opening collections of the previous adaptation Adipurush.

It is also projected to dwarf the opening-day numbers of notable Bollywood hits such as Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and Ranbir Kapoor's previous blockbuster Animal.

Cast, Crew, and Release Schedule

Produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios alongside DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, the epic is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The stellar cast features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.

The first installment is slated for a worldwide release on November 5, 2026, with the second part scheduled to arrive during Diwali 2028.

News Overview

Ramayana is projected to secure a massive worldwide opening day of approximately Rs 160 crore, fueled by strong global pre-sales and a massive international release footprint. Although it will comfortably surpass previous hits like Jawan, Animal, and Adipurush, it is not expected to break the all-time opening records held by films such as RRR and Dhurandhar 2.
